Garmin InReach Mini
My personal favorite satellite device and one that is clipped to my backpack on every hike I take: Garmin InReach Mini. It’s $100 off which is the biggest reduction I’ve ever seen! REI doesn’t let you use a coupon for Garmin products typically, so if you find it on sale, it’s definitely a bonus since it’s not an inexpensive piece of gear.

Here’s something I wrote about why I think this device is a very worthy addition to your backpack. While it’s not one of the “10 Essentials,” if you can afford to carry a device that sends an SOS signal to emergency services, should you become lost or injured to the point of immobility, it could literally save your life. Worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

Smartwool Products
I’m a huge fan of merino wool base layers both for hiking and for sleeping if I’m backpacking. Smartwool is my personal favorite brand at it is 30% off during the sale.

The entire line of Therm-a-Rest Sleeping Pads is included in the sale. The NeoAir XLite is my personal favorite on my backpacking trips, but if you need a bit more R-value (in other words, if you’re going to be camping in cold weather and need more insulation in a pad), the NeoAir XTherm is also on sale. Katadyn Water Filters

Patagonia
There’s soooo much Patagonia in the REI sale! Jackets and clothing dominate the scene but you’ll also find some gear like backpacks too.
One of many great deals on jackets is the Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket which is 30% off, dropping it from $199 to $139. This jacket is well rated and reviewed just about anywhere you look.
Paired with a base layer and a wind or waterproof shell, it completes a winter ensemble nicely. It’s made from recycled synthetic insulation and comes in a variety of colors for both men and women. My son and daughter have both used this jacket and it’s held up well and kept them warm!
Superfeet Insoles
I’ve used the Carbon Lightweights before (I have to use a custom insole now because I have a pesky neuroma that needs more aggressive support). Using an insole makes a big difference in foot soreness, in my opinion, especially on longer hikes. I personally think they ward off foot issues as well, like plantar fasciitis.
Kahtoola Microspikes
My Kahtoola Microspikes are always in my pack during a winter hike, just in case I come across or get caught in unexpected wintry terrain. They’re also great when you’re shoveling snow on an icy driveway! They’re a great deal right now during the sale for 20% off.
Of note, there are a lot of off-brand microspikes like this on Amazon. I bought four sets of them for my family members to use on the Tour du Mont Blanc, should we come across any snow or ice. We didn’t have to use them much, so my opinion is limited about their durability long term, but they did just fine for our needs. They are usually at least half the price of Kahtoola’s, so if you rarely need something like these, I would personally save your hard-earned cash and just buy those instead of the pricey Kahtoola’s.
Outdoor Research Gaiters
Most of the time, I have my Dirty Girl Gaiters hooked to my shoes to keep the dirt and debris from finding its way into my shoe. In winter though, I often switch to my Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters . Outdoor Research Gaiters are on sale for 25% off though, so it’s a great time to buy them if you need them.
In addition to these deals that I can personally recommend from my own family’s use, there is plenty to consider beyond it. There are some great buys on REI tents, sleeping pads, and backpacks. There are also plenty of shoe and sock discounts in the mix on a variety of brands (Oboz, Solomon, Keen, etc).
