**Newbie Info: the Marmot PreCip has long been a popular rain jacket option for hiking and backpacking and it is typically very well reviewed. It’s lightweight, has some features usually reserved for more expensive jackets, like pit zips, and has decent breathability. I’ve owned mine for years, and while the DWR coating does wear off and it needs to be replenished from time to time (which is going to hold true with any jacket that’s made like this), you simply can’t beat it for the price point.
