VALLON sent me a pair of their new ‘June’ Sunglasses to try out. I love sunglasses and it’s one of my favorite things to review. I was immediately impressed their specs: 100% UV protection (UV400), polarized lenses, and frames made from highly resistant nylon. They also offered three different color choices for the frames (I chose Horn).
Sadly, they looked odd on my face and I knew I wouldn’t wear them much if I didn’t feel good in them.
My 18-year-old daughter, Paige, concurred that I looked dorky in them and asked if she could give them a try. As soon as she put them on, I couldn’t believe how different they looked on her! She was on the cusp of leaving for her freshman year at University of North Carolina Chapel HIll, so it felt like the perfect place to put them through the wringer of every day wear and tear.
After Paige wore them for a couple of months, I sent her some questions about them. As you’ll see, they’re a great option if they look good on your face. And even if you order them and they don’t, VALLON offers a free 30-day return policy in the US, Canada, and Europe. They also come with a lifetime warranty, and there are plenty of styles to choose from if you already know the ‘June’ style isn’t your thing.
Without further ado, here’s what Paige thought about them!
What was your first impression of this style of sunglasses when you put them on (especially after noting how dorky your mom looked in them)? What type of face do you think they’d work best on?
The ‘June’ Sunglasses wound up in my hands because of their unique shape. Based on how they looked on my mom versus me, I would recommend people with either prominent or higher up eyebrows. I believe the reason my mom did not like them was because they covered up her eyebrows, but mine were still visible.
Now that you’ve worn them for a couple of months, what are your thoughts on the way they shield your eyes from sunlight? Is it too much, too little, just right?
I think that they shielded my eyes a perfect amount. I’m not used to wearing sunglasses very much, so any kind of shading is more than what I’m used to, but I did not feel as though there was too much.
Are the glasses comfortable? Do they fit well or do anything annoying (like slide down the bridge of your nose when you’re sweaty)? Do you feel them on you while you’re wearing them?
The frames are heavier than sunglasses I’ve worn in the past, but they did not slide down my nose or give me a headache. They sat nicely on my face.
I know college students can be rough on small things that you take in and out of your backpack constantly. Have these held up well for you on Chapel Hill’s campus (the frames and the lens–scratching, breakage, etc.)?
The glasses come with a nice case, unfortunately I forgot to bring it with me to college, but it kept them safe at home. At Chapel Hill, I typically just put them on top of my head and keep them out of my backpack and purse. However, I do recommend keeping them in their case if you’re storing them in your purse. I did not do that once, and I have a big scratch on one of the lenses even though I thought I had positioned them safely against my purse lining.
*Side note from Nancy: the faux-leather hardcase would have protected Paige’s glasses and I’m not surprised they were damaged in her purse, given the other items she carries in it–hard lesson learned! The case also holds a handy microfiber cloth.
Nothing is perfect, so if you haven’t already conveyed anything that you don’t like about these sunglasses, what are they?
The shape of the sunglasses is not for everyone, but on the right face and with the right outfit they add a nice touch to your look! I’ve really enjoyed wearing them.
Is there anything else you’d like to add about them, good or bad? Would you recommend them to your friends?
The quality of the glasses is very apparent. When I put them on in front of a friend one day, she immediately made a comment about their quality and style. It’s fun having a pair of good-quality sunglasses that I feel good wearing!
