Yaktrax are on sale for anywhere between $11.48 and $14.27, depending on the size you wear (that’s up to 43% off)! This is an excellent buy and they even come with free one-day shipping for Prime members!
Yaktrax are best suited for light snow use while hiking. One person in my Facebook group commented that Yaktrax are also great to have in your pack if you’re rock hopping across a stream on slippery boulders–I personally love that idea for them since I’ve ended up on my butt making such a crossing!
They are also excellent for using while shoveling snow in your driveway during the winter months. My son has a “side hustle” snow shoveling business and he doesn’t ever leave home without his own pair of Yaktrax to make his day of shoveling run more smoothly.
I also know many a runner who uses Yaktrax in the winter months, when they’re going to pound the pavement (or trail) with light winter precipitation covering it.
Kahtoola Microspikes are typically what stay in my pack during the winter months but read this blog post from my blogging friend, Jeff Clark of the Meanderthals site, to see what he thought of his Yaktrax on winter hikes.
I’d make the jump to microspikes if you’re going to be traversing anything more than that (the trade off is that microspikes are heavier and more expensive). But it’s not a bad thing to have both microspikes and Yaktrax in your gear stash, depending on your situation.
